What will Facebook announce this evening?

Facebook’s “Project Titan” announcement in San Francisco is a little over two hours away. While all the excitement focuses around Facebook allegedly creating a fully fledged webmail application, or a ‘Gmail killer’ as it is often referred to, I’m sceptical as to whether this will happen.

In my view Facebook will likely announce some improved internal functionlity within Facebook messages. However, I can’t see any major benefit of being able to directly target email addresses as a destination within Facebook messages. All my friends are already on Facebook so I’ve no reason to message externally on Facebook.

Even if Facebook did announce webmail functionality, would people use it? I certainly couldn’t imagine conducting business emails over Facebook.

We’ll keep up posted as the announcement happens. As so often happen I’ll likely be proven wrong!
