Irish Data Protection Commission to quiz Facebook over user ID leaks

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission wants to discuss the leaking of Facebook user IDs with the social network.

Speaking in response to an information request from this site the Irish Data Protection Commission said that as Facebook’s Europe, the Middle East and Africa are based in Dublin it will be discussing the privacy issue with the social network.

Facebook employs about 140 staff in its Dublin Hanover Quay offices.

When asked if it plans to investigate the information leak by Facebook applications the Commission said, “In regard to the apparent provision of Facebook user IDs to advertisers by certain applications on Facebook, this office maintains ongoing contact with Facebook given the location of their European HQ. We will be discussing this issue with them in that context.”

The Commission reports that it has not received any complaints from Irish Facebook users about the leaking of their Facebook IDs.
